PDA-Sensitive Design Process

PDA-Sensitive Design Process

For clients with a PDA profile, a design process that builds flexibility and choice into every decision, so participation feels safe rather than demanded.

Pathological Demand Avoidance changes how a person can take part in decisions. Our process adapts: options are offered rather than assigned, timing is flexible, and the client shapes the pace. Complimentary social stories support transitions, and the same approach extends to nonverbal clients and anyone for whom a conventional design process would be a source of stress.

What is included

  • Choice-led decision making at every stage of the design
  • Flexible scheduling and low-pressure review sessions
  • Complimentary social stories for moves, renovations, and new rooms
  • Communication support tailored to the client
  • Coordination with the family's therapists and educators on request

Who this is for

  • Children and adults with a PDA profile and/or other complex needs
  • Nonverbal clients and clients with communication differences
  • Families who have found conventional design processes impossible
